Documentary on Anderson Silva: "Like Water"

"Like Water", produced by Jared Freedman, is a mixed martial arts documentary on UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva's preparation and training for his UFC 117: "Silva vs. Sonnen" title fight that went down last August at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. Silva would endure four-and-a-half rounds of punishment to come back and submit challenger Chael Sonnen to retain his 185-pound title and keep his UFC unbeaten streak alive. This film was debuted in April of this year at the Tribeca Sports Film Festival. I really want to see this film. This would be our first insight into the life of this enigmatic champion, Anderson Silva. Unfortunately, I can't tell you who will air the film next. Hopefully it will air on ESPN, but we should be so lucky. Video preview is below.

Anderson Silva is the longest-reigning UFC Middleweight Champion and one of the greatest mixed martial arts fighters of all time. This behind-the-scenes documentary gives a surprising look at the man behind the fighter and the dedication and commitment it takes to stay at the top. From Silva's life in Brazil with his wife, three sons, and two daughters, to training with his team in Los Angeles and Miami, first-time filmmaker Pablo Croce peels back the layers of an ultimate fighter to reveal the heart of a champion.

A man of few words, Silva does not shamelessly play into the media hype machine—although he is continuously taunted by opponents who do. He aligns more with the philosophy of Bruce Lee than Muhammad Ali, and is pound for pound just as effective. Confusing to promoters and opponents, Silva's own psychological game is a mystery, but perhaps it is just because his path is more about the simplicity of hard work and the quest for perfection. Croce's hard-hitting documentary exposes the unseen side of Ultimate Fighting and culminates in one heart-pounding fight that signifies more than just another championship.

Poem“A little bird flew very far to a very distant land. When it got there it found it was a cold, freezing land and the bird froze to death. A cow passed by and took a dump right on top of him. The warm shit that fell on him melted the ice, and he was resurrected.Alive again, but still buried, he started chirping.A cat passed by and heard his cries, and dug him out of the shit. And then the cat ate the bird.
Moral of the story: The person who takes a dump on you isn’t always your enemy, and the person who takes you out of the shit isn’t always your friend!”

Something Different: Armstrong and Wilson Pocket Squares

These are worth looking into. Simple, stylish and well-constructed pocket squares designed with fashion in mind by two fashionable guys. This is a recipe for success. While these pocket squares may be a little steep in price for most, they certainly represent something different and something to aspire too. This line is classically styled with touches of modern coloring and flair (each square is hand stitched with a unique button). These pocket squares are just as much art as they are fashion accessories.

From the GQ Eye:

"What happens when two "Best Dressed Real Men" come together to create a playful twist on a men's wardrobe staple? Well, you get Armstrong and Wilson, the product of Ontario Armstrong and Clifton Wilson's desire to bring some old-school flair and gentlemanly attitude back into today's haberdashery game. We chatted with Mr. Armstrong about buttons, branding and peanut butter and jelly..."

 - Sean Hotchkiss
"The GQ Eye: People pick different niches to make their mark in the style world... Why the pocket square?
Ontario Armstrong: There was always so much thought put into the other components of the man's wardrobe, but never the square. We're at the point where guys are taking notes from the gents of yesterday, by adding those subtle details to finish their look. We wanted to create a pocket square with enough attitude and uniqueness that men could build their daily look around it. We pride ourselves on creativity, quality, and building a brand of integrity. Every button is hand-sewn so there is a lot of love in what we do."

Below are only some of my favorite looks from one of my Favorite Blogs: Street EtiquetteYou'll notice that Fit, Color and Proportion are things that make an outfit memorable.
These dandies were featured in The New York Times today in an article by Jon Caramanica:
"The best posts on the style blog Street Etiquette find its principals, Travis Gumbs and Joshua Kissi, in motion. As opposed to the fascistically frozen street-style snaps of The Sartorialist and others, these pictures are styled and plotted fictions but also affecting ones, depicting a pair of young black men taking ownership not just of the body and what goes on it, but also of the environment it moves in. No one ever smiles on Street Etiquette: there's business to attend to."
